Debug tools

Tools meant for testing maps, mods and the engine itself.

Developer mode

Developer mode unlocks the game's developer commands and the tools on this page. It is turned on with the -devmode launch argument, or permanently with a command.

balltze_set_devmode_enabled

Syntax: balltze_set_devmode_enabled <setting: boolean>

Enables developer mode without the -devmode launch argument. Default is 0. The value is saved in Documents\My Games\ringworld\balltze\config\settings.json and overrides -devmode. Typing the command without arguments prints its current value. This command is provided by Balltze.

Note

As in the stock game, developer mode restricts joining network games: the connect functions refuse to join a game while it is on.

Camera cycle

With developer mode on, the Backspace key cycles the camera between three modes, in campaign and multiplayer games:

  1. First person: the normal player camera.
  2. Flying: a free camera that is moved with the movement and look controls, independent of the player.
  3. Following: a third person camera that follows the player.

The stock retail game still read the key but had the camera switch cut out.

Frame rate graph

The stock frame rate graph, shown with Ctrl+F12, measures frame times in microseconds and scales past 60 FPS. See High frame rate.
