Transparent generic shaders

shader_transparent_generic is the most flexible transparent shader of the engine, made for the Xbox. Its tags are configured like the Xbox register combiners: up to four maps mixed by up to seven stages of inputs, mappings and outputs, for color and alpha separately. The PC version has the tag group but skips those shaders when drawing, so anything that uses them is invisible.

Ringworld draws them. Each tag becomes its own pixel shader, built when the map loads, with:

  • Up to four maps, the first of which can be a cube map.
  • Up to seven stages. A tag without stages draws its first map.
  • Every framebuffer blend function and fade mode of the tag.
  • The fog stage.
  • Numeric shaders, whose first map shows the frames of a numeric countdown.

Up to 255 transparent generic shaders are drawn per map.

This needs Ringworld's shaders in the effect collection (see Installation).
