Loading maps from tags

Note

This feature is intended for map creators.

Ringworld can load a scenario straight from a tags folder, the way Sapien does, instead of from a .map file. Tags are processed at load time the same way the map compiler processes them, and the scenario scripts are compiled while the map loads. There is no need to build a map to test a change.

Usage

Start the game with the -tags argument:

haloce.exe -tags

Maps are then loaded from the tags folder in the game folder. Every .scenario file in it is found at startup and takes the place of a map with the same file name, so levels\test\bloodgulch\bloodgulch.scenario is loaded with map_name bloodgulch or from the multiplayer menus, as if it were bloodgulch.map.

A list of folders can be given instead, separated by ;:

haloce.exe -tags "my_mod_tags;tags"

The first folder in the list that has a tag wins. This way a mod folder can override single tags on top of a full stock tags folder without copying it. Up to 8 folders can be given.

Problems that would make the map compiler reject a tag are reported as warnings, and the map still loads.
